SYMPTOM

Refrigerator/Freezer runs for long periods

Appliance: Sub-Zero Built-In (600 Series) Models: 601R, 601RG, 601F, 611, 611G, 642, 650, 650G, 661, 632, 685, 695

What This Means

The compressor and/or fan motors run continuously or for extended periods without cycling off as expected.

🔧 How to Fix

  1. Clean the condenser area behind the grille. A dirty condenser forces the compressor to run longer.
  2. Check that doors and drawers are fully closed. An open door causes the unit to work harder.
  3. If a large amount of food was recently added, the unit will need to run longer to bring temperatures down. This is normal.
  4. On hot days and in warm room temperatures, longer motor run times are normal.
  5. Note: Some sounds during extended operation are normal -- refrigerant circulation, fan operation, ice maker operation, defrost cycle, and compressor operation.
