The compressor starts but then shuts off on its overload protector. The compressor may repeatedly attempt to start and then cut out. Causes include insufficient condenser airflow, a faulty relay/overload, locked rotor, system overcharge, or improper line voltage.
| Possible Cause | How to Fix |
|---|---|
| Clogged condenser | Clean condenser |
| Condenser fan obstructed or faulty | Clear obstruction or replace fan |
| Kickplate/grille restricted | Remove restriction |
| Relay and/or overload faulty | Start compressor direct with a starting cord. If it starts, replace relay and overload. |
| Compressor rotor locked | Start with starting cord. If it does not start, replace compressor. Note: if compressor just cycled off, pressures need time to equalize. |
| Sealed system overcharge (both pressures high) | Evacuate system and recharge with correct amount |
| Improper line voltage | Must be 105-125 VAC. Have line voltage corrected if out of range. |
